Dream Team:Laura Veirs and The Unicycle Bastards

Hello friends,
I must confess that I haven't created an illustration this week. None the less, good things are a happening. I learned how to use the bindfast5 at the IPRC. I met some cool people who are also making books. I edited a grant. Friday I got an internship, and celebrated at the Alibi with two swell friends who had their own exciting news, and also treated me to beers. Double YAY. Today I got some questionable free bread. WIN.

Sidebar: I've kinda loved Laura Viers for a few years now . She has this song "Cast A Hook In Me" that involves a mermaid. If my book ever gets published, and if I ever have a book launch party, I'd want Miss Veirs to perform. I think she's whimsical. I think this video is whimsical.

I'd like her to make a book trailer for my book, but mostly I'd want her and The Unicycle Bastards to perform at my opening/mermaid costume party, and I'd want you to attend. That's all. Oh yeah, check out THE video..

Creating Chaos

So, I'm kind of a messy person, by kind of  I mean beyond. At one point, my nickname was Katy Chaos. I've been doing my illustrations for The Tale of The Tail in pastels on pastelboard. This process has been really fun; pastels are a pretty forgiving media. The problem with pastels is I get them on everything. Upon seeing my laptop my friend Mel asked: "Are those grass stains?" "Uh, no" I replied. "You, know I was drawing and looking at a picture on my computer at the same time."

Today was and is one of those epic February days: a day that reminds us just how perfect spring can be. Today is also a beautiful tease; spring is further than we think.

Upon the sand and by the sea, slept a man who was about thirty-three.

Welcome,
A few years ago I wrote a children's story entitled The Tale of The Tail. I meant to both illustrate and distribute the book to the masses, unfortunately I didn't fulfill my own intentions, time passed, nothing happened.

I'm happy to say after years of stagnation, mass-production is about to happen. I'm back in school, studying publishing at Portland State and book-binding at The IPRC (Independent Publishing Resource Center). Over the course of the term, I plan to illustrate, bind, and sell my book. I shall document my progress in this blog!

In case you're wondering what this book is all about, I've created a little book description.

Both whimsical and wacky, The Tale of the Tail is an unlikely story of friendship between man and seahorse. After a professional unicyclist falls asleep on the beach, awaking to find himself a merman, he loses all hope of competing in the afternoon race. Then he meets a seahorse who changes everything.
